A Weymouth Scout hut has been transformed after volunteers provide a makeover.

A team of eight volunteers from Dorset based landlord and developer Aster Group has given the home of Weymouth West Air Scout Group a much needed makeover.

Led by employee experience partner Julie Cridland, the volunteers worked together to bring a new lease of life to the outdated Scout hall off Granby Close.

The revamp was part of the company’s Aster Foundation volunteering scheme, which is designed to encourage colleagues to take part in local community projects.

The team gave the main hall and benches a fresh lick of paint, and repainted the ceiling in fresh white tones.

John Naylor, Chair of Weymouth West Scout Group said: “On behalf of the Scout group and the local community, I’d like to say a big thank you to the staff at Aster for volunteering their time.

“The redecoration has made a massive difference to the hall; it is now a much brighter and more welcoming space.

“Help with projects like this really does make a difference to community groups like ours and we’re so pleased with the finished result.”

Julie Cridland added: “I was delighted to see how many colleagues got involved with this project.

“I’ve been a volunteer at Weymouth Scout Group for a number of years and the work it does is really close to my heart; I’m really pleased to see just how much we can achieve as a community when we work together.”

Aster is committed to supporting its local communities and gives its employees the opportunity to volunteer 150 work days each year to support projects just like this one.

The Aster Group works towards its vision of ensuring everyone has a home, with a purpose to be an ethical housing developer and landlord to benefit society.

The not-for-dividend business was established in 1990 and has over £1.4 billion worth of assets.

Aster will develop 11,000 homes over the next seven years for open market sale and shared ownership, reinvesting the profits to develop homes for rent.

The group owns and maintains over 29.000 homes and provides services to 75,000 customers.
