Three men have been arrested on suspicion of supplying a drug and substances have been seized after police swooped in Weymouth.

A car was stopped in the town and subsequent searches were carried out at a house and a business in the police operation.

Locals told how scores of police officers were involved in the search.

Dorset Police said three men aged 29, 36, and 48, all from Weymouth, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug with intent to supply and are assisting officers with their enquiries.

It came after officers stopped a vehicle in Chickerell Road, Weymouth, around 7.15pm on Tuesday.

A search of the vehicle was carried out and a quantity of what police believe to be a Class B drug was seized.

The force did not name the drug that was seized.

Class B drugs include amphetamines, cannabis, ketamine and mephedrone.

Further searches were carried out at an address in Chickerell Road and an address in Lynch Lane. Those searches continued yesterday.

Dorset Police would not disclose where the arrests took place.

Speaking yesterday, the manager of a business in the Lynch Lane area said he had seen a number of police cars in the area in the morning and officers going into the premises of a business.

He said: "There was an officer standing outside a business and quite a few going in and out of it. The police van has been there all morning too.
"We don't know what is going on but it's not usual for us here, we don't have too much trouble.

"I hope police get to the bottom of what has happened."

Another worker on the estate, who also wanted to remain anonymous, said she had noticed the police van yesterday morning.

Speaking yesterday she said: "We've had quite a few people come in and ask what is going on, the police seem to have been at the business for quite a long time.

"There has been quite a few officers going in and out of the building and the van.

"It's quite surprising, not something that happens every day."
