Hi Readers, it’s Emily and William here this week, talking sugar tax.

In case you missed it, sugar tax is where the government levy a tax (more money) on sugary drinks.

It’s to try and stop people overeating sugar, as too much is very bad. The tax means sugary drinks will probably cost more.

The taste of drinks may also change as manufacturers reduce their sugar content. We think it’s an excellent idea as it might tempt us, and others, not to buy them.

It will also help our health! We also think the price of unhealthy snacks should go up, as they are full of bad fats and lots of calories.

There is far too much processed food in shops and supermarkets, with nice wrappers tempting us, and telling us it’s easier to grab these than cook a healthy meal.

We want to see the price of fruit and vegetables going down as they are much healthier for us. We’d like supermarkets to put them in nice colourful and fun packaging (like sweets) as we think that will tempt people to buy them.

We’d also like to see more offers on fruit, vegetables and healthy foods. You often see two chocolate bars for 80p but we rarely see discounts on healthy foods, or promotions on TV, radio or in papers.

Many schools are encouraging children to eat better and have a healthy variety of foods.

We should support that so we all have a better chance of being healthy. It may put less strain on the NHS if we don’t eat bad things. Perhaps the NHS would cope better if we made ourselves healthier? Instead of blaming the NHS for not coping – maybe we should blame ourselves if we get ill from our unhealthy lifestyles?
