A SERIES of BikeSafe courses are to be run across the county to help make motorcyclists safer on the road.

The BikeSafe course is available to anyone who rides a bike with an engine size of at least 250cc and riders are encouraged to book their place soon as the dates filled up quickly last year.

The courses are run in two parts over a weekend. The first part runs on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and consists of a theory presentation which highlights the causes of accidents and the theory of advanced riding.

The second part of the course is an assessed ride which will take place on Sundays between either 9am and noon or 1pm and 4pm.

The course is subsidised by Dorset County Council, which means that the course fee is just £20 for the second year in a row. The course fee was £40 in 2010.

There are six courses being run from April to October at Wimborne, West Bay and North Dorset.

Police Constable Chris Smith, BikeSafe co-ordinator, said: “Even the most experienced bikers could learn something on the BikeSafe course that may one day save their life.”
