THE British Red Cross is marking national Volunteers’ Week in Dorset by thanking the hundreds of people who give their time to charity.

It is also calling for more people to sign up to help vulnerable people in crisis living in the community and make a difference to the lives of others.

The week will run from today until June 17 and will aim to encourage people to learn more about the rewards of volunteering by calling the charity to discuss the opportunities.

Jayne Peters, Red Cross volunteering support officer for Dorset, said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Red Cross and they are lifelines to the hundreds of people they help. We have more than 420 volunteers in Dorset at the moment and we want to give even more people the opportunity to share the experience.

“Volunteering gives you the chance to meet new people and gain new experiences. We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in their communities and to the lives of others.”

In Dorset, the Red Cross is looking for volunteers, over the age of 15, in health and social care, fire and emergency support and community based first aid and administration.
