A FATHER who glassed another man at a Weymouth holiday park has been jailed for over a year.

David Osbourne, 24, was sentenced to 70 weeks in prison at Dorchester Crown Court after admitting a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm relating to an attack on fellow holidaymaker James Woodrow on May 12.

Carolyn Branford-Wood, prosecuting, said the defendant and his victim met in the bar at the Weymouth Bay Holiday Park and Mr Woodrow even bought Osbourne and a friend a drink. She said there was ‘good-humoured banter’ amongst the group but that changed when Mr Woodrow made a comment to Osbourne, calling him ‘gel head’ or something similar.

Miss Branford-Wood said the next thing the victim knew he was being struck by a glass swung by the defendant.

She said: “He swung his arm with the glass in his hand and smashed it into the side of his face.”

Miss Branford-Wood said Mr Woodrow was left shocked, not quite realising what had happened, and then saw blood on the floor and noticed his face was cut.

The police were called and Osbourne, of Fair View Road, Wilton, Salisbury, made immediate admissions as he was arrested.

Mr Woodrow’s injuries were treated at the scene with sterile strips. In a police interview Osbourne said he had been drinking and had also taken cocaine. The offence also put Osbourne in breach of a suspended sentence order, imposed for a two-year period in February last year for offences of robbery and theft in the Salisbury area.

Judge Roger Jarvis activated the suspended sentence, imposing a 30-week jail term, and also sentenced him to a further 40 weeks’ jail for assaulting Mr Woodrow.
