THE ROYAL wedding saw communities come together across the Dorchester area to celebrate.

Cerne Abbas was the one and only street party to enjoy as locals were even treated to a celebrity visit.

Singer Chesney Hawkes came along to enjoy the event with his friend and villager Victor Irvine and his family.

He said: “The atmosphere here is lovely, it’s a proper local celebration and we can just let the kids run wild and have fun.

“I’ve got three kids here and my brother’s here with three kids, it’s just lovely not to worry about them with the streets closed – it’s an old fashioned street party.”

In Charlton Down villagers turned out for a street party in Oak Road.

Resident Karen Sanders, 33, said: “We’ve got all the neighbours coming out and they’re all bringing food.

“They’ve all just watched the wedding and are coming out to celebrate.”

In Dorchester part of Manor Road was closed off for residents to head out and enjoy the occasion.

David Henshaw, 51, said: “People just came out of their doors with cakes and teas and things. It was lovely to see the road like that – a permanent road closure would be nice.”

At Frome Terrace Green residents of Frome Terrace, Orchard Street, Friary Hill, Friary Lane and North Square turned out for a neighbourhood picnic that also featured a wedding hat competition.

The Royal Oak pub at Milborne St Andrew held a party for villagers while Crossways residents enjoyed a street party at Frome Valley First School.
