IT'S going to be bigger, better, and muckier than ever before – students are putting on their wellies for this year’s charity Muckathon.

In just 24 hours, they will spread muck, plough and cultivate 55 acres of land at the Kingston Maurward College farm to raise funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The students, who are studying agriculture, have followed in the footsteps of their predecessors by managing to source all of the machinery needed – and 1,000 litres of fuel – through donations from local businesses and residents.

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance does great work around the South West.

The charity has a huge running cost and the KMC Students wish to help them in their battle to find this money.

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance receives no government subsidies.

It relies solely on the generosity of members of the public and fundraising.

The Muckathon will take place on April 24 and students will work in shifts from 8am until midnight, before taking a break and resuming again at 5am on April 25.

But they won’t be resting on their laurels before then, as they are carrying out a ‘tractor pull’ through Dorchester town centre on March 18 and April 9 to help meet their £3,000 target.
