WE’RE way into the summer now – school’s out, the sun is shining and next term still seems too far into the future to even contemplate.

So why am I, and many others, feeling that our summer holidays are not all they’re cracked up to be?

We wait for weeks with baited breath for these summer months, and when at last that final school bell rings, you’re full of optimism and excitement for the beginning of the longest holiday of the year.

For me, this summer is extra special – I have just finished my A-levels, so I suppose this is my last ‘school holiday’!

Up until now, I have loved every second of my summer – I have been travelling, gone on holiday with my friends and generally just enjoyed the sunshine.

Yet, there comes a point in everyone’s summer holiday where they – dare I say it – run out of things to do.

I’m not saying it’s where we live that is to blame – it’s the student budget.

Most of us can’t afford to go jet-setting across the globe, and as a result eventually become bored.

Having experienced this myself, I have decided that enough is enough! I shall endeavor to enjoy every single minute of this summer, whether I have loads of money or not a penny.

We should try to ignore the staged conception that this is the ‘best summer of your life’, which as a result puts more pressure on you to live up to this ideal.

Instead, let’s just focus on enjoying ourselves, whatever way that might be.

After all, we’ll be kicking ourselves when September rolls in and we’re sat back at our desks, wishing for the next summer to hurry up!
