AFTER volunteering with children in Morocco last summer, I have been inspired to spend a little more time helping others in another country.

I have been chosen by VSO and ICS to spend three months in Nepal to improve healthcare and encourage girls to stay in school.

This has been specifically requested by the community and the assistance will be sustainably implemented to ensure real improvements are made. As I will be living with a local family in Kathmandu, I am looking forward to being fully immersed in a new culture and way of life.

This is an experience which will not only give me a wider perspective but also create change in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Nepal has faced continual civil unrest recently because of unstable governance and this has resulted in poverty and injustice. I wish to contribute to VSO’s worthwhile work and in order to do so, I must raise £800. I will be doing lots of fundraising events but I, and those I will be working with, would really appreciate any donations which can be given through my JustGiving page: justgiving.com/sophie-grant-foale Although I am nervous about the trip, I am excited about doing something so fulfilling and gaining some invaluable memories while having a positive impact before studying English Literature at university next year.
