Together with 16 others students we are currently taking part in an NCS project in order to aid the community, shape participants outlook and prepare them for the world outside of education.

The project is part of the Outdoor Adventure Sports course at Weymouth College and we have been set the task or organising a fundraiser for a charity of our choosing.

We are trying to raise £1,500 for the projects.

In order to raise the money for our project and our chosen charity, we have decided to climb the height of Mount Everest.

The height is 8,848 metres, which results in 61 climbs per person up a 9m climbing wall at TS Boscawen Sea Cadet Training Centre in Weymouth.

We chose to do this type of fundraiser in order to have a challenge that would be worth putting money to, as the intensity of the task will push us all as we strive to attain our goal.

The climb will take place over a whole day and we will alternate in pairs every 10 climbs.

We have decided to donate a proportion of the money to the RNLI, due to the fact the course we are all doing is Outdoor Adventure, which specialises in water sports activities and therefore it would be an appropriate charity to designate the raised money to.

With the other amount of the money raised, we have decided to come up with the idea of 'Homeless Hampers'.

This is collecting shoe boxes, and filling them with the necessities that homeless people will need.

We have spoken to the Salvation Army and they have agreed to allow us to visit them on a Tuesday evening and pass out our hampers to those who are going to the soup kitchen on Westham Road in Weymouth.

This project was selected by us as we feel it is a problem which many face in the local area.

This means that our hard work and fundraising will go towards a local need.
