DORSET is a truly remarkable place to live, from the stunning countryside to beautiful unspoilt beaches, and in the summertime it is far from boring.

Here's my list of the top 10 things to do.

1. Weymouth beach offers glistening sands and clear blue waters. During a hot summer day it is bustling with tourists and locals soaking up the sun. It is a great location to spend the day, with a number of great restaurants and pubs.

2. Travelling to Tyneham village is like travelling back in time. The village was abandoned in World War 2 and offers amazing scenic walks along the Jurassic coast path.

3. In the west of Dorset located in the charming town of Bridport is The Electric Palace Theatre. The venue has seen many prestigious acts walk upon its stages, from famous comedians, well known musicians and screenings of the latest films.

4. Camp Bestival is a wonderful family festival held in the grounds of Lulworth Castle. This year’s event features The Kaiser Chiefs and Professor Green.

5. For those who love anything to do with planes, The Bournemouth Air Festival is a must. The Red Arrows make a regular appearance, and the location along Bournemouth beach provides an unforgettable day out.

6. Based on some of Dorset’s most famous residents, The Tolpuddle Martyrs festival provides a weekend of great live music. Billy Bragg, The Beat and Seth Lakeman have all been confirmed for this year’s event. The festival has a distinct political feel and will appeal to anyone interested in Dorset’s political history.

7. For those rainy summer days, The Plaza Dorchester is much loved well-established cinema. Recently extended to hold four screens, The Plaza offers great ticket deals on the latest films, an ideal destination when the sun isn’t shining.

8. Tucked away between Dorchester and Bridport, the sleepy village of Littlebredy offers amazing countryside walks and a perfect picnic destination beside willow trees and a waterfall.

9. Situated on the border with Devon, Lyme Regis offers a range of individual shops and boutiques, coupled with a striking coast line. A day out to Lyme Regis is bound to entice you to return again and again.

10. The Great Dorset Steam Fair is a typically British event. The variety of exhibitions and the sheer scale of the show means that there is always something new to see. Live music plays into the early hours, a great place to let your hair down and party into the night.

Whatever you taste Dorset and can accommodate.
