BY LUCY ARMSTRONG

IN December, I went to the midnight showing of the new Star Wars movie, However I felt like a fraud. I’d never seen Star Wars before.

Despite that, I loved the film and I loved the girl power that Daisy Ridley portrayed throughout as Rey.

Since then, I’ve followed the actress on different social media platforms.

As a young person who personally feels the pressures of the internet, I personally agreed with the actress when, this week, she released an Instagram photo that stated everything wrong with the pressure to be perfect online.

The British actress says that self-esteem is a huge issue for everyone, which is a statement that many people would agree with.

The issue of self-esteem in young people has only been increased thanks to the social media world.

Platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook have contributed to an increase in young girls and women suffering from both mental illnesses and eating disorders.

Some of my closest friends have suffered through some dark times with illnesses such as anorexia, which brings us nicely onto my final point that everyone in Dorset should be thankful for.

Despite the pressures of both society and the media increasing the cases of eating disorders, eating disorder services in Dorset have been praised for having some of the shortest waiting times throughout the country.
