HOLLYWOOD has come calling to the seaside town of Weymouth as it is confirmed as one of the locations of Christopher Nolan’s war movie Dunkirk – one of the most highly anticipated films of 2017.

This exciting news will lead to an economic boost for the town and an interest in the location that will be vital to the filming of the war epic.

Cllr Jason Osborne, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council spokesman for harbour and tourism, said that the town is going from “success story to success story” and said that the film will put Weymouth on “the world stage”.

The Echo reported last week that an open casting event in Weymouth was believed to be recruiting extras for the film.

This is a great chance for any up and coming actors to work alongside acting greats such as Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy and Mark Rylance.

Rylance won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his performance in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies.

As a young person, the excitement of seeing your home or a place that you are familiar with as one of the main locations in a film set to open worldwide on July 21, 2017 is thrilling.

For the younger generation and older, the film has already become a great advertisement for Weymouth, which has already resulted in an increased level of attention for our seaside town.
