POKEMON Go, described as a 'free-to-play location based game’ has taken the world by storm, becoming one of the most used mobile apps quickly after its release.

The app has been downloaded by more than 75 million people since its release in most of the world on July 6 this year.

The game promotes physical activity by using your device’s GPS system and camera to help you catch and train virtual creatures, who appear on your screen as though they are in the real world.

The different Pokemon have various rarities, and so collecting the rarest ones means more activity and walking around your local area more.

Various places are labelled as ‘Pokestops’ where Pokemon can be found, so players flock there in order to collect as many Pokemon as possible.

Many people think Pokemon Go’s popularity could lead to more accidents if people are on their phones rather than paying attention to their surroundings, however there are many fans as well.

Holly Cornish, 15, said: “I think people like it because it’s interactive and it makes people walk around.

“It confuses me because, before the game came out, everyone thought Pokemon was for eight-year-olds but now all ages play it.

“It’s a good game but I don’t get all the hype.”

The game has also caused conflict in schools before the end of term, as young people were reported to be walking out of lessons to find the best Pokemon for their collections.

Fran Piesing, 15, who doesn’t play the game, said she liked that the game "gets people active and outside".

I think that this game is a really good way of getting people active and to interact with others, whether it be comparing their latest catch, or their rarest Pokemon so far.

The game does come with its dangers though.

There have been rumours of muggers creating Pokestops for the purpose of luring in people and stealing their phones or people causing accidents by looking at their phones rather that the outside world.

However, I think that the game is quite revolutionary in getting people of all ages to be on the same game, which is very unusual.

If you are out playing this game, remember to be careful and always be aware of your surroundings.
