You often hear locals moaning, grumbling and whining about the terrible traffic in Weymouth, the abundance of dog business on the pavements and the lack of snow or heatwaves.
Let’s take a step back to realise how incredibly beautiful Weymouth really is; look through the eyes of a tourist.
My mum often says how lucky we are to live here and I completely agree with her. Look at the positives; our beautiful harbour, with colourful boats bobbing about atop the surface; the sprawling golden thread of a beach - stretching for miles out before becoming the fully-fledged Jurassic Coast, known for having an abundance of fossils for the wannabe archaeologist - and, not to mention, only minutes away you have picturesque Portland with its stunning views and looming cliffs.
And, if beaches and harbours aren’t really your thing, only a few miles away are thick forests and historic castles. Children’s farms are incredibly entertaining destinations for family days out.
Closer to home we have cafés, busy shops, sleek hotels and the ever-present funfair and arcade.
Not only are there brilliant places to go and things to do, but there is such a great community spirit around here.
Take, for example, Weldmar’s Light up a Life service - a gathering at which a light is lit in memory of a deceased loved one.
So remember, when you’re moaning about how much you want to get out of Weymouth, how lucky we are to live here.
