Selfies have become a craze all over the world and people are always trying to get the best shotwhich isn’t always a good idea.

From falling off bridges to crashing cars, so many people have had their lives claimed in the past year by trying to take selfies at the wrong moment.

Following the incident at West Bay featured in the Dorset Echo (and numerous national papers), where a family posed precariously on the edge of a cliff for a selfie, I would urge people to be more careful.

Taking a picture that makes you seem more daring or attractive simply isn’t worth risking your life for.

In the past year, more people have died from failed attempts at ‘cool’ selfies than shark attacks. It’s really not worth it. During the incident at West Bay, a woman was perched at the edge of the 200ft cliff while a man with a child on his shoulders stood behind her, holding a selfie stick.

A witness said he “couldn’t believe” what he was seeing and that, had the man stumbled, the child would have “gone flying.” Of course, while locals know that the West Bay cliffs are notorious for being crumbly, tourists may not realise the danger that they are putting themselves in.

In this case, the family were very lucky there wasn’t an accident. Despite there being some really tempting views out there, it’s not worth risking your life to get a good selfie.
