It is almost three years since a hotly contested article featured in a national newspaper describing Weymouth as ‘a prison of passion, a graveyard of ambition.’
The question of how the town can move forward has been the subject of discussion for a long period and is yet to reach any conclusion.
With two writers currently investigating the fortunes of seaside towns like Weymouth, there is a widespread challenge across these areas to adapt to an economy and development fit for 2017 and beyond.
From my own view, it often comes down to not only the businesses and wages for working-age individuals, but how the town is perceived by its residents.
Too often, rubbish bags are openly disposed of in places which make it all too easy for animals, namely seagulls, to create an unacceptable level of rubbish across streets.
This is just one aspect where there is potential for the area, and for those of us who live here, to improve.
Sadly, there are no quick answers for some of the problems which exist here.
