For a while now it has often puzzled me why we as youngsters (myself being 17) are asked to pay the same as everybody else to travel around the area, whilst we often earn considerably less? Is it fair?

Of course those aged under 16 pay lower prices, but why not students? We're the people who work our socks off day and night to hand in an English essay on time, whilst at the same time revising hard for a business A-level exam the next day. Are we as students and young people really expected to work incredibly hard to make sure we get the results we want, whilst also earning enough money to make sure we get to sixth form or college in the first place? I think not.

Last year I travelled five days a week to and from home in Wyke Regis to Weymouth College; not a huge distance but certainly not a quick walk.

A return ticket for this journey would be £3.30, and yes, that is for everyone aged between 16 and 65.

Getting the bus five days a week for a whole month cost me £66. Without a job at the time due to it being incredibly difficult to find an evening job in Weymouth, you can understand that I found it rather strenuous to fund travelling to and from college.

It is enough to a struggle to pay for lunch and all essential supplies to get us through the day, without the disgraceful prices of public transport. Will we see change? I hope so.
