This week Emily Montgomery discusses transport costs.

With climate change becoming a growing problem, is it time that we moved on from cars and look to the future? Cars produce greenhouse gases which destroy the environment not only for the animals around us but for ourselves as well.

But public transport can reduce the amount of CO2 being produced greatly. Public transport is becoming more widely used in some places after services have improved.

However, train tickets are still expensive on most lines and many commuters have had to resort to using their cars even though the trains would be greener and would save the rush hour traffic.

Numerous people say that paying for a train ticket every day to get to work simply isn’t worth their while.

After forking out for a ticket people, especially on minimum wage, can’t afford to live if their money is spent on train tickets. It may not seem much for just one ticket but after a while it can add up.

It’s not only the extortionate rates but the convenience as well. Many of us wake in the morning and would much rather walk the few paces to the car than walk to the nearest bus stop or train station. Perhaps they are the future though?

With society rapidly changing, so is the world around us. We now have the knowledge about just how severely we are destroying our planet. By reducing prices and reliability we can take another step toward saving it.
