This week pupils from St George's Primary in Portland discuss last week's snowy weather.

Last week many schools across England had a snow day. We really enjoyed the snow as it is very rare on precious Portland.

We hope everyone had an amazing time and didn’t get injured but we believe shops should be more prepared for snow.

When we went to our local store they had run low on various foods such as eggs, cereals and milk despite all the weather warnings.

At the same time, it was a shame that we missed two days of our education and it was probably very difficult for parents finding childcare at the last minute if they were unable to take a day off work.

We spoke to our fellow St George’s Primary school pupils and hear’s what they had to say.

Maisie Kilfoyle said: ‘’I loved the snow because I got to make snowmen and have snowball fights. My least favourite part was it was too crowded in Tesco. My favourite part was sledging.’’

Pheobe Barnwell said she did not like the snow because she and her sister almost got frost bite and the only bit she enjoyed was sledging.

Hayden Burrows said: ‘’I loved the snow because it is very rare for it to happen on Portland. The thing I didn’t really like was how cold it was. It was also annoying because it was very icy.’’

Here are some top tips for children to stay safe if the snow comes back:

  • Don’t go out in the snow unless accompanied by an adult
  • Don’t travel unless you have to
  • If you have a snowball fight, make sure you’re throwing snow not ice
  • Don’t go out in the snow for any longer than 30 minutes.
  • Keep an eye on your siblings

We hoped everyone stayed safe!
