I have just read the story about the cows left to starve in a field, and cannot believe the reaction from Dorset County Council.

When did it become acceptable practice to cause suffering to farm animals?

Apparently they are not planning on taking any further action against the owners, despite having what is clearly enough evidence for a prosecution.

What kind of message is this giving to other people in a similar situation?

Obviously it is: “Do what you like. It doesn’t matter – you’ll get away with it.”

I would hope that the majority of farmers who take their responsibilities for animal welfare seriously will be as incensed by this story as I am.

If this were a cat or dog, I am sure suitable action would be taken, and farm animals should be given the same respect.

Neglect is neglect, and whether it is intentional or not, there is no excuse.
