For many years Weymouth and Portland Borough Council has treated Condor Ferries with a complacency born of arrogance, resulting in the costly fiasco of the neglected jetty.
Now we are told Condor may have to move back to Poole because the existing jetties at Weymouth are too small for their proposed new vessels. Since Condor is such an important contributor to the town’s economy, a continual dialogue between the council and company would make sense.
This begs the question, how long has the council known about Condor’s plan to increase the size of its vessels?
If this knowledge predates the jetty repairs then the council has some serious questions to answer.
If not, how has this come as such a shock?
In addition Condor missed a trick when it chose not to move its operations to Portland where there is plenty of room for vessels of any size.
