I feel, as a Weymouth resident of nearly 30 years, that I ought to put pen to paper about the state of Weymouth Beach.

I have never seen the sand so high against the promenade wall in places and that we are left with a two-tier beach. I know the storms over the past few months have taken its toll on the beach but the annual moving / re-grading of the sand does not seem to have happened. The steps and ramps are buried under tonnes of sand.

My own thoughts on this matter are that when the main season comes along, families will be huddled on the top part of the beach building sand castles etc with the lower part of the beach consisting of hard, compacted sand and not suitable for the above activities.

Perhaps someone from the council can write to the Echo and explain why our ‘Jewel in the Crown’ asset as a holiday destination is in such a funny state.

Also could someone explain why, with all this money being spent on cycle ways, cyclists still need to ride on the road? In the past three days I have encountered cyclists on Weymouth Way, Radipole Park Drive, Preston Beach Road and even the Relief Road.
