Shortly after the tragic death of Lily-Mae Jeffries in 2012 I went past the accident site on Weymouth Way and to my great surprise and amazement I saw that there was indeed an official opening on to the road from Southill.

This seemed very dangerous to me (and clearly was) and I wrote to Dorset County Council. I hoped they would close it – at least until a better solution was found. However they told me of their plans then to build islands to improve safety.

My point then was that there is not a safe place to cross that road and unfortunately another tragic accident has occurred. Currently the crossings give the impression it is safe to cross and are almost inviting. It clearly isn’t!

Surely either the crossing(s) need to be closed off – or there needs to be a bridge.

Crossing that road by at least two of the present crossings seems to me to be very dangerous indeed. It cannot be left as it stands.
