Your article on Saturday, ‘Quay Boost’, talks about yet another scheme to develop Brewers Quay.

Mr Nigel Read (BID), and Kate Wheller (Weymouth & Portland Mayor) seem in favour of this development.

Perhaps they would like to explain why to the 105 traders making a living with my company at Brewers Quay.

This has happened before. A vibrant shopping complex is thrown away because of a proposed development. I have spent the last two years ‘developing’ Brewers Quay, opening numerous shops, an art gallery and, for a while, an auction.

Look at the closed shops in the town and now they are in favour of closing down my enterprises which have a combined turnover approaching £1million.

Before everyone starts supporting the development, maybe we should be told who the builder will be who will take on this multi-million project for luxury apartments.

We could end up back to where we were a few years ago with a lovely Grade II listed building decaying before our eyes and with yet more small businesses being cast on the scrapheap in the name of ‘development’.

If that’s what Weymouth wants then by all means go ahead, but it was not what we wanted in the past so why would we want it now?
