Robert Dunster’s comment (August 16) that it is better to educate drivers to take more responsibility on the roads regarding speeding etc, is, in my view, a complete waste of time. After all, over many years, millions of pounds of taxpayers’ cash has been spent on ‘educating’ car drivers to act responsibly when out and about driving, with very little success.

In fact, things have got worse rather than better. You only have to drive a few miles or so to prove that fact.

No, the only way to ‘educate’ bad drivers is to fine them - and fine them heavily. Hit them in the pocket where it hurts; confiscate vehicles for repeat offenders. Driving bans also work. This is the only way to stop the ongoing carnage on our roads and stop the speeders - both old and young.
