I AM writing in answer to Mr J Wellman’s recent letter about Lycra clad cyclists not using the cycle path. Well, here are some of the reasons why: Cycle paths are for leisure cycling for children and adults, so when a Lycra cyclist is on the road he is training to race, and you can not do the speed on a cycle path. It would be very dangerous to other users of the cycle path.

Lots of people say cyclists do not pay road tax, well if you own a car you pay road tax and you cannot drive your car and ride your bike at the same time, so I don’t pay road tax in one form.

The people that use the Rodwell trail complain about bike riders going fast on the route and quite right. Cycle paths and trails are for leisure walking and riding, not racing.
