When I read the account of the commemoration for heroes of the First World War in the Dorset Echo on August 9, I was reminded that my mother, Mrs Minnie Kingman (nee Oliver of Dukes Avenue) served at Colliton House in Colliton Park which was a hospital for wounded soldiers.

I have her medal which was given to her by the matron, Winifrede Marsden, thanking her for her help.

Miss Marsden lived for many years in Prince of Wales Road.

I believe my mother helped with the preparation of the diets for those wounded men. I also still have the tablespoon my father used during that war with his number 22696.
