I must congratulate the organisers of the B-side arts group for organising the fantastic arts festival on Portland, which is on until September 14.
The pieces of work can be seen in all sorts of places across the island: on the shoreline of the harbour and in St George’s Church, at the Bill and in the library, in cafes and pubs, in a house and at The Verne, at bus stops and in the Royal Manor Theatre.
This really is a community-based festival, celebrating the story of Portland’s history, geography and people.
With some of the country’s best artists, many of whom are known internationally, the project uses the experiences and talents of local people and has produced a festival that is varied and enchanting.
Let’s hope as many people as possible are able to visit Portland before the festival ends. And then, hopefully, we’ll see even more of these enriching events right across the borough, and Dorset, in future.
