Is it a triumph or have we just given in? I refer to the loss of the Lyme Regis 71 town service which will no longer run on weekedays after 2pm or 3pm but will now run on Saturdays.

Many of those returning from a day out of Lyme or wanting to go to town, to a medical or dental appointment or to see friends in the afternoon will see this as a loss and the decision to accept the proposal from the bus operator without full consulatation with either residents or councillors as rushed and unfair.

As some councillors have already pointed out other alternatives could, and in the opinion of myself and others, should have been considered.

Next time we face cuts, like those already proposed for the 31 bus, the town service may again be trimmed.

Those of us lucky enough to be able to drive and afford to run a car can now add to the congestion in town if we are lucky enough to find a parking space we can afford.

We are encouraged to leave our cars at home and use public transport which I fully support but without a reliable and useful service it seems the elderly, disabled and others who rely on the bus should be grateful that we can go out in the mornings and content to spend the next 18 hours isolated at home until the next bus runs!

Cuts to public transport result in more cars on the road, more pollution and isolation for those who have no car.
