We would like to help improve the proportion of funding given by the Dorset Community Fund to Weymouth and Portland groups (The Rev Briggs’ letter, October 9).
In the experience of Dorset Community Action, we find that successful funding applications come as a result of a strong, well-developed project plan rooted in community groups who have had opportunities to build their capacity with training and support.
Dorset Community Action is working to identify and address these needs in partnership with the Weymouth and Portland ‘Working With You’ project.
We would like to invite The Rev Briggs and any other community group representatives to come to our upcoming community lunches in Underhill on October 21 or Melcombe Regis on November 8 in order for us to be able to gauge need and interest in further support mechanisms for groups to develop projects that attract funding for more community work in the Weymouth and Portland area.
