AS USUAL the powers that be have gone off ‘half cocked’ when it comes to developing a viable rubbish disposal and recycling system for the town.

The ‘one size fits all’ multi bin fiasco imposed on the town with little or no consultation, whilst working in some quarters cannot work everywhere, especially the town centre where we have individual residential dwellings and buildings of multiple occupancy, situated over several floor levels, most of which are above commercial properties, with little or no access to available outside or inside areas, capable of storing these bins for periods of up to a week or more.

What is required is a collection system with specialised garbage and recycling containers set up at strategic locations around the town centre. These collection points would take up little more than one car parking space on each street.

These would be convenient and accessible and within easy reach to residents 24/7. This system works very well on the continent where it is used to great effect.

I myself have lived in the town centre for over two years and whilst paying full council tax I have never had a council rubbish collection, despite contacting the council on many occasions.
