It's a matter of personal opinion as to whether or not the new Waste Disposal System is working for you here in the Weymouth area. They would have us believe it can and will work if we all comply.

However, in a recent TV programme, my eyes were opened to introductions being trialled and elsewhere in the country.

Take, for instance, Bury. They have recently started THREE weekly collections for rubbish.

If anyone reports their bin isn’t large enough, the ‘bin police’ call round and go though your rubbish (with your consent) and determine if indeed a second bin is required or if more effort is needed to recycle.

In Banbridge (County Down, NI), they have their rubbish collected every FOUR weeks.

If you are still reading this, then maybe you would like to take on board that Newcastle-under-Lyme now issue NINE bins.

Those, it seems, are the facts. Now for the fantasy. Let us do away with the food bins.

After all, it is the food waste that causes smells. No doubt you're thinking to yourself what would happen to the food waste?

Easy: leave it out for the gulls. My bet is that it will be consumed within minutes.
