I must reply to Councillor McCartney’s letter from November 12.
The letter is all one-sided and not complete, so I will continue to finish it.
First of all there is no mention of rogue tenants.
I am a landlord who provides a home to these people who are homeless, and this is how I have been treated in the past by them.
It starts off with the first few rent payments being made and then excuses why they cannot pay the full rent which results in reduced payments and arrears building up.
So I have to give them notice to leave the property.
This takes usually six months or more, and the eviction order has to be done through the courts.
Consequently, the tenants have had all that time owing large amounts of money to the landlord.
Tenants have damaged my property as soon as they receive the eviction order. The cost to me amounts to thousands of pounds.
You mention that they are moved on constantly, this is because they have done it all before, and they know their rights.
By all means name and shame rogue landlords, but in fairness likewise, name and shame rogue tenants.
