I write in response to your recent story on the closure of Southern Counties Shooting.

The closure itself means the loss of a first class facility which formally started in 1953. You describe the venue as ‘Dorset’s only shooting ground’.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth as the Purbeck Shooting School still offers Dorset’s premier shooting ground for clay target shooters.

Competitive and recreational shooters alike are still welcome to visit our excellent facility just outside of Wareham and adjacent to Bovington tank training area.

Closure is not a new story and is one all too often in the press these days.

With town and city dwellers moving to the country and planning boundaries continually creeping towards sporting venues, to lose such a venue that is long established and with no planning restriction is a huge blow to the sport.

We now have plans to develop and enhance our site further to the West, enabling the business to offer a top quality sporting facility encompassing an educational centre and club house with dining and function facilities.

We would like to assure all readers and clients that we fully expect to be here long into the future to deliver this exciting opportunity for our business and the South West’s shooting community
