Andrew Martin demands dramatic public spending cuts, blaming the country’s economic ills on ‘public sector workers and those on benefits’. The inspiring account of Tuesday evening foodbanks and soup kitchens at the Salvation Army Citadel quotes Mike Emeny, who says: “We’re not here to judge. We’re just here to help in any way we can”.
That included listening – a lesson for most of us?
I just don’t believe all benefit recipients are unscrupulous scroungers and know of public service employees who have found making ends meet difficult yet some are also voluntary workers.
