Let’s get a couple of things straight about wind turbines.

And let’s not get into a deep discussion about their relative merits – especially that relating to a wind turbine’s expected power generation etc etc.

They are a blight on the landscape, particularly if you happen to live not far away from them. But more importantly, wind turbines need to draw electricity from the grid to actually work, even when they the turbine blades are not turning.

And if those who advocate them really believe that they will generate the amounts of electricity that they are supposed to, perhaps they should do a bit more homework, before singing their praises. Wind turbines will never generate enough electricity – even if thousands more of them were erected tomorrow morning. And, of course, they don’t generate any electricity when the wind is not blowing – which it doesn’t on many occasions. But what they do when the wind isn’t blowing, they consume electricity not produce it.

So just imagine how much electricity is being wasted on hundreds of wind turbines every day of the week up and down the UK that are just sat there doing nothing.
