Last Saturday I went to the Pavilion to the Annual New Year Concert by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

As usual for this concert the Pavilion was packed out both stalls and the circle. The concert was as wonderful as ever with the BSO, but halfway through it my mind went back to the same concert that I attended two years ago (is it really two years?). I remembered that between two Strauss waltzes the conductor turned to the packed audience and said: ‘How can the people of Weymouth allow this theatre to close?’ because at that time it seemed that it might. The audience reacted with shouts of support.

Thanks to some wonderful people it did not close and it was so good to read in Wednesday’s Echo about the success of the Community Interest Company headed by Phil Say.

Let’s hope for another really good year at the Pavilion – I believe Ken Dodd is booking very fast!
