So W&PBC have rejected an application for a touring caravan site on the old market site at the top of Portland. Councillor Sandy West is quoted as saying "We do welcome caravans on Portland" Oh really??

This glib, and I have to say totally inaccurate statement, demonstrates Cllr West's total lack of knowledge in respect of the subject matter she is ponificating (and more importantly voting) on.

There is not a single licensed touring caravan site anywhere on Portland so perhaps she would care to explain to me exactly how "We do welcome caravans on Portland" ??

Weymouth and Portland relies hugely on the tourist industry and the council should be doing everything in its power to encourage and welcome visitors to "our" bit of the Jurassic Coast rather than adopting such a negative attitude to a proposal that would certainly bring more visitors to the area to spend their money in our community.

I wonder how many of those who voted on this issue have a connection, or vested interest in, campsites in the area? Did any declare such an interest (or abstain) when it came to voting??
