Your article 'Revisting true horrors of hell', 17th April) has brought back to me one of the defining moments of my life.

A few days after the liberation of the Belsen concentration camp I had my eighth birthday.

My birthday treat was a trip to the local Gaumont cinema to see the latest Disney film.

Halfway through the programme, as usual, the newsreel came on.

Without warning, uncut film of the liberation came on to the screen. I still remember vividly the masses of skeletons, dead and living.

Huge pits had been hastily dug and piles of dead bodies were being bulldozed into the pits.

I will never forget the screams from my mother and most of the rest of the audience.

Unbelievably, we still have Holocaust deniers amongst us.
