I have just returned from attending the Memorial Day remembrance service at the US war memorial on the Esplanade, Weymouth opposite the Royal Hotel.

Although the padre leading the service had a working sound system, only those close to him could hear a word he said as the traffic noise was so deafeningly loud.

Is it not time that arrangements were made to close that part of the Esplanade for 20 minutes to allow the service to proceed with dignity and to show respect to those American troops who served, many of them never to return? The same also applies for 25 April for Anzac Day when a remembrance service is held at the Anzac memorial on the Esplanade.
