EVERYBODY in the West Dorset area must get off their backsides and fight this most awful idea of moving the children’s ward to Bournemouth hospital, or moving any part of DCH anywhere.

I am in my eighties now, but have suffered two cancers, the first needed to be treated at Bournemouth and the second, sixty days outpatient treatment at Poole hospital. Needless to say, the dedication of all the NHS people was first class, I was treated more like a relative than ‘just another patient’.

The nightmare was the distance my wife had to travel to visit, we have no car although the ‘brains’ seem to think everyone has one. Some time ago they moved our Weymouth hospital to Dorchester with the excuse ‘they have a bigger population’.

Now they are saying Bournemouth has a bigger population. In two years time it will be Southampton and then just one big hospital in London you can all get to!

I am so surprised these moves are being backed by a doctor. Is there no thought to a mother who is already beside herself with worry over her child’s health, now must have the added worry of travelling miles maybe with other children.

I cannot believe this scheme has even been talked about let alone considered.

Please just do not turn over to the sports page.

This affects all of us.

I dread to think how the poor people living west of Weymouth would get on.

We have a hell of a job even getting in and out of Martinstown and you would have quite a job finding Bridport central railway station.

Please write to your MP or email if you can, just do not ignore this awful threat.
