IT’S A SAD story when we read about another serious injury or death on our roads.
It has been said many times – the roads themselves are not dangerous; it’s often the manner of driving and each investigation produces the answers.
However, I do wonder how many accidents are down to poor observation skills or late reactions.
Take for example the A37 between Dorchester and Yeovil.
There have been a number of accidents on this stretch of road over the years.
Signage along this stretch of road in particular is poor, but it’s a common problem elsewhere, too.
There are a number of road signs (direction signs, warning signs and information signs) which are dirty or obstructed by foliage.
Information should be taken, used and given.
At 60 mph you need to have the time to read the sign well before you’re upon it.
I urge the council to cut the hedges back to make them visible, which may just give information to motorists a little bit sooner for them to react to.
