MAY I take this opportunity to reassure Peter Noble (A Church Solution, Saturday, 18 July) that the agreement for a new Community Hall as part of the Phases 3 and 4 Development at Poundbury has not been “flushed down the drain” by councillors or planners.

West Dorset District Council has entered into an agreement with the Acland Road Community Church for the purchase of the site that they currently own on the Charles Street Site.

The church will now use their funds to relocate to a new facility, probably on the site for the new Damers School where building will be starting shortly.

The church will have sole use of their own, self-contained part of the building and will be free to continue to hire out this space under their own terms and conditions as they do now in their current building.

The agreement for a new 300-seater Community Hall to be provided on Poundbury, is a condition of the planning consent for Phases 3 and 4 and this is not altered by the Community Church’s decision to relocate to Poundbury (or wherever else they may choose).

As an elected Member of Dorchester Town Council and West Dorset District Council, I will be working hard to ensure that this much needed community facility is delivered as required by the agreed planning condition and I am sure that many of my colleagues representing Dorchester on both councils will be supporting me.
