DORSET – the delights as countryside meets a stunning coastline, Colmer’s Hill stands proud over Bridport, our quaint fishing ports, distinct beaches and pretty villages.
Something to be proud of. So why, on Wednesday morning, did Burton Bradstock resemble the aftermath of an apocalypse?
It looked as if some gargantuan tipper lorry had deposited its contents of rubbish overnight – dirty nappies, left-over, uneaten and rotting food, and other disgusting unmentionables had been distributed across the village, born on a brisk breeze, seemingly unleashed, in an attempt to intensify the issue.
Rubbish bags ripped to shreds fluttered unpleasantly allowing the disgusting contents of a throwaway society to be observed by all, including the unrepentant seagulls, the main perpetrators of the crime, greedily hoping that they had missed some disgusting rotting morsel and poised ready to attack again. This is not something to be proud of!
Gulls are a nuisance. They are scavengers, but they are not the main protagonists. There is a selfish minority who, without thought, place rubbish bags out without any protective covering. Someone else inevitably has to clear it up. Can people please think when putting out rubbish. An old sheet will do. Stop being selfish. I refuse to clear up your dirty nappies.
