THERE seems to be so many reasons for moaning in your columns it is pleasant to be able to confer praise.

In this instance I would like to commend all those who planned, contributed and participated in Wednesday’s carnival.

It may not have been the most spectacular but for sheer grit and determination it was remarkable; all the tribulations of those planning it culminating in the appalling weather that ruined all the air displays – nothing deterred them.

Also remarkable was the generosity of people such as Dave Bevis whose immaculate trucks were the basis of several floats.

Particular praise is due to the bands and the walking displays, especially when they involved young people; despite the wind and rain, at Greenhill where we saw them, they were cold and wet but still strutting their stuff!

Well done everyone!
