HAS anyone noticed the increase in the number of dogs in and around Bridport? It seems as though every third or fourth house has at least one. The parade to the recreation fields and fields generally every morning, lunch time and evening is a good sign of the numbers involved.

One wonders if the dog owners have permission from the land owners, all land is owned by someone.

Perhaps the government is missing a trick here, what about allowing the local authority to charge for a licence?

When there was a dog licence it was seven shillings and sixpence.

Calculate that in today’s money it would be at least £30, maybe £50, enough to employ dog wardens and street cleaners for the area, thus making Bridport a cleaner place.

I would add that I have been a dog owner in the past but am fed up with tripping over leads in the town on market days.
