ON TUESDAY, I travelled from Wareham, along Puddletown Road, across the crossroad at Gallows Hill and past Cloud’s Hill to the B3390 at Waddock crossroad.

The verge on both sides of the road along my journey had been cut, and in fact the tractor responsible was coming to the end of its allotted work as I passed.

No prizes for what I’m about to say next! Litter, which had been concealed for months in the undergrowth, was strewn across the newly cut verges and roadway as if a music festival had taken place. One piece of blue plastic sheeting which had obviously been blown off some lorry was now in at least three hundred pieces.

Where, I would like to know, were the staff who were going to be following these cutting machines which were promised at the beginning of the year. Correct me if I’m wrong but I seem to recollect the council was liaising with the contractors when this work was to be carried out?

Now will a gang of litter pickers be along to collect the said litter - I very much doubt it? Perhaps the person responsible could leave their cozy office, jump in their car and take the trouble to drive along the route to see just what a disgrace it is to this county.
