ONE area of the public sector that has so far escaped the Chancellor’s axe is the bloated Palace of Westminster.

The House of Commons has 650 MPs for a population of 64 million, while the US with a population of 318 million has just 435 Congressmen in its Lower House.

Far too many MPs given the fact that most of our laws are now enacted by the even more bloated and costly European Parliament – for which our own parliament is rubber-stamping Brussels diktats.
